Figurative, Earth Art

Figurative Art is an artistic representation based on realistic forms. Figurative art pays attention to realistic detail of human form, but does not always necessarily show human figures. Realist painters use line, color, shading, and perspective to depict figurative images. Figurative art pays attention to the specific shapes of figures, and has often been based on principles of geometry. Not all figurative art is necessarily realistic, however. Figurative art from Greek antiquity was more based on geometric shapes referring to human figures, and this resulted in forms that do not appear natural looking at all. Later on, with Classical sculpture, attention was paid to creating natural forms in figurative art. Figurative art represents art that is not abstract. Many types of figurative art do show the way things are in the real world, so if it looks like a real life person, it’s most likely figurative art within the category of realism.
